Abstract

The purpose of this document is to analyze the role of money in the Greek crisis, mainly in relation to monetary policy, as well as its level of indebtedness. There is a theoretical discussion about the role of money in an economy and how the injection of large sums of money into the Greek economy, via international credit, was conditioned to a series of fiscal reforms, which ended up paying the most vulnerable social sectors. It’s concluded that this economic management is illegitimate, even more so, when economic policy decisions respond to the seal of capital; this illegitimacy is historically evidenced in social imbalances and structural instability, since they are inherent in the capitalist system.
