Abstract

The main purpose of this article is to question the extractive model that the department of Meta has had, seeking alternatives for socioeconomic development that enhance its agro-food and tourism vocation. For this, the problem of the fall in international oil prices and the repercussions it had on the national and departmental economy was addressed, emphasizing in the case of Caño Cristales as a limit that has exceeded the oil sector. Finally, it’s concluded that the future of the department of Meta must go beyond the exploitation of hydrocarbons.
